Joana de Verona is Portuguese and Brazilian. She was born in São Luiz do Maranhão in the northeastern region of Brazil.  Since her parents are Portuguese, she shared all life between the two countries, specially due to her professional career. In her resumé, there is an enviable list of European and Brazilian feature films, as well as numerous plays staged in Portugal. As a result, she received awards as the best actress at major film festivals of Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon.

Joana started very early. At the age of eight, she had already defined her future: she wanted to be an actress or a dancer. Since then she has never stopped studying. “I’m addicted to training”, she explains, who doesn’t regret having started so early. “I’ve been doing theater since I was a child, and this dedication to artistic studies has always been good for me”.

In addition to numerous interpretation courses, Joana studied dance, but as an adult, she was also delighted with the movie direction. “At the age of 22 I moved to Paris to study documentary film directing at the Ateliers Varan school. It’s something I want to dedicate myself to more and more, to direct more”.

Joana has got a lot of experience. She has already performed in about 30 movies and dozens of theater plays and several series. “I make cinema and television in Europe, I have been working since 2008 with theater director Mônica Calle, with work linked to performance and physical resistance. It is important for me to work with talented and demanding creators, people with whom we can learn and enrich ourselves artistically”.

In Brazil, Joana acted in the soap opera Éramos Seis, and in the miniseries “Presença de Anita”, both on TV Globo, and, in cinema, she worked in Africa da Sorte by Renata Belo Pinheiro, in O Touro by Larissa Figueiredo and is the protagonist of the film Tinnitus , by Gregório Graziosi, and the film Praça Paris by Lúcia Murat.

She can also be seen in the series Santos Dumont, an exclusive HBO production; directed by Estevão Ciavatta and Fernando Acquarone, where Joana plays the young Almerinda. The actress, who spends her professional life between Brazil and Portugal, is a success in the country, giving life to several protagonists in works on national television, such as Bia Ferreira da Fonseca from the soap opera Ouro Verde, winner of the International Grammy in 2018; Sara in the soap opera Valor da Vida shown in Brazil by Band TV, and Elisa Gonçalves in the series Vanda, an international co-production shown in Brazil by Lionsgate plus on Amazon Prime Video.

Joana was elected “one of the beauties of European cinema”, together with the French actress Léa Seydoux, she also lived in Berlin, where she acted in the German Cinema.

When not acting, Joana, who speaks five languages (Portuguese, French, Spanish, English and Italian), enjoys taking pictures and traveling. “I’ve always traveled a lot because of my family and my work, even so, when I’m on vacation I like to pack my bags and go on a trip again”, she says.
