Rodrigo Mathias was born in Rio de Janeiro, but at the age of five, he moved to a small town of São Lourenço, in the countryside of Minas Gerais and he considers himself more as “Mineiro” (from Minas Gerais) rather than “Carioca” (from Rio de Janeiro). He brings with him all the tranquility and peace of mind of those who grew up in a bucolic and fertile environment for his own imagination.
At age of 18, he aroused the enthusiasm of being an actor watching "Malhação" (a famous and one of the longest Brazilian series). Since then, his life took a different turn. "I came to Rio, without even knowing if it was really what I wanted," recalls Rodrigo, who, in one of his first forays into TV, participated in the soap opera "Cobras & Lagartos" (2006). "I used to play around to see if the overall picture was real. "It was a feeling of being at Disney, an enchanted world", he says.
Focused on following his passion, he sought  Retiro dos Artistas Theater School, in 2008, already extinct, where he did courses of interpretation. However, he could not stay in the city and had to return to Minas Gerais. Upon arriving there, he got a job as a sales representative at a major food company. Even there, he didn’t stop dreaming. "I used to play a character while dressing as a salesman," he says. At the age of 27, he left his quiet life again to venture for the second time in Rio. "Either I would leave that little world or I would have to leave my dreams behind. "Despite of making money, I was not happy", he says.
Back to Rio de Janeiro, he enrolled in Wolf Maya Academy of Actors, whose owner is a prestigious TV director, and, after a test, he won his first role in a soup opera called, “Pega-Pega”, on Globo TV, giving life to the competent security Murilo, "It's a dream come true." In the theater, between plays by Nelson Rodrigues and Shakespeare, Rodrigo stands out in one of the most recent ones, "Romeo and Juliet", in which he played Lady Capulet, the protagonist's mother. "After that I left the comfort zone", says the actor.
About childhood, Rodrigo confesses that he slept in the exact class. "I didn’t catch up with other subjects, unless history. I was too lazy at school".  Claiming to be a fan of police films, his career references are: Al Pacino, Robert de Niro and Wagner Moura. Even now that Rodrigo begins to earn his place, he doesn’t lose his origins. "I miss my little town. There the day surrenders more. Here it is difficult for us to stop and look at the sky", he says. Among his wishes, he wants to visit southern Italy because he feels like appreciating its beautiful sky.
